Virgo and Libra compatibility score
Mixed match
Sun-sign score, Virgo with Libra
Virgo and Libra are better friends than lovers: a mixed match overall, with friendship the one area that scores well and easy talk close behind. Sex trails, and astrology gives a reason, since Venus, Libra's planet, sits at its weakest in Virgo. Both say yes to other people first, so protect your shared time before accepting another invitation or favor.
Strengths
- Easy friendship with plenty of good talk
- Each refuses easily what the other can't
- Courtesy on both sides keeps fights civil
Challenges
- Both overbook, and shared time goes first
- Chemistry that warms slowly and can stall
- Each blames the other's yeses for the lost weekend

Virgo and Libra in love, sex, friendship and marriage
Love
48% · Mixed
Virgo and Libra tend to fall for each other's manners first. The Libra notices how carefully the Virgo listens; the Virgo notices how easily the Libra puts a room at ease. Earth and air sit apart, though, and romance cools when every evening is promised elsewhere.
Sex
46% · Mixed
Venus is at home in Libra and at a low ebb in Virgo, so these two often want different things from the same night: the Libra wants romance and a setting, the Virgo wants to relax and get it right. The warmth takes time. Say what you like in words, and say it early.
Communication
58% · Mixed
Over a long dinner these two can talk for hours without a lull. Their harder conversations start after a promise is already made: the Libra has accepted the invitation, the Virgo has taken on the favor, and the other hears about it on Friday, when it's too late to refuse.
Friendship
62% · Good
Side by side in the zodiac, Virgo and Libra make good friends. One gets the other to the party; the other gets them out of the favor nobody wanted. Each covers the gap in the other's social life, and as friends they can skip each other's plans without a quarrel.
Marriage
50% · Mixed
A Virgo and Libra household runs smoothly on paper, with bills paid and guests welcomed, yet the calendar fills with other people's plans. Cardinal Libra starts things and mutable Virgo adjusts to them, so nobody guards the shared week. Over the years the house stays in order and the couple sees less of each other than the guests do.

Each pair of signs gets a short reading and a question to ask each other.
Some signs couldn't be confirmed
A date alone doesn't tell us the birth time or time zone, so we allow extra room around each position. Here that allowance covers two signs, which doesn't mean the planet changed signs that day. Both candidates are shown and counted in the score's range, and the written reading waits for one confirmed sign. The birth chart calculator opens empty, so you can enter either person's details.

One says yes to every invitation, the other to every favor
By Monday night the coming weekend is already gone. The Libra has said yes to a friend's housewarming brunch on Saturday and a cousin's engagement drinks on Sunday. The Virgo has agreed to proofread a neighbor's grant application and to set up a coworker's new laptop on Saturday afternoon. The Sunday afternoon they'd kept for each other is now a drive across town. 'You can't say no to anyone.' 'Neither can you.'
Each has given away time the other thought they'd share. Libra and Virgo both over-commit, just to different things: one says yes to people, the other to jobs, and by Wednesday each is blaming the other's yeses for the lost weekend.
The Sun's two companions
Libra is ruled by Venus and Virgo by Mercury, and Ptolemy explains why their signs sit next to each other. He hands out the houses on the Sun's half of the zodiac in order, starting from Leo, the Sun's own sign. Next comes Virgo for Mercury, which never strays more than one sign from the Sun, and then Libra for Venus, because 'this planet at most is never more than two signs removed from the sun in either direction' (Tetrabiblos I.17). Bill Thayer, who edits the online edition, puts numbers on it in a note: Venus never appears more than 48° from the Sun, and Mercury no more than 28°.
The two rulers also have a say in each other's element. In Ptolemy's chapter on the triangles, Venus governs the earth signs by day and Mercury governs the air signs by night. The same chapter places 'Virgo toward the equinox' (I.18), and Libra is the sign that begins at it. In US Eastern time, September 22 had already turned Libra by noon in 5 of the 67 years from 1960 to 2026 (2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024), and September 23 was still Virgo at noon only in 1963, 1967 and 1971. The exact start and end of Virgo season for 2026 to 2028 are on the sign guide.
Venus is where the trouble sits. Ptolemy makes Virgo the sign of Venus's depression, the place it's weakest (I.19), and William Lilly's 1647 tables call the same placement Venus's fall. So Libra's own planet is at home in Libra and at a low ebb one sign over. Astrologers read that as two ideas of romance in one couple: one that wants courtship and atmosphere, and one that wants to be useful first.
Equal rising times, mirrored days
One sign apart, Virgo and Libra make none of the four aspects Ptolemy recognizes (I.13); modern astrologers call the gap a semi-sextile. They differ in kind as well, a mutable night sign beside a cardinal day sign, and in element, earth beside air, the element of talk and other people. Ptolemy's I.16 counts signs one apart as disjunct, and the Loeb edition's editor pairs Virgo with Scorpio for rising times. Count from the autumn equinox point itself instead, by the rule Ptolemy gives in I.14, and Virgo and Libra come out as the matched pair, by our computation.
By our calculation for New York, Virgo and Libra each take 38.0 degrees of the sky's turn to rise, about 2 hours 32 minutes, the equal-rising rule Ptolemy gives for signs equally far from an equinox. Their days mirror each other instead: with the Sun at 10° Virgo New York gets 13 hours 2 minutes of daylight, and at 20° Libra 11 hours 14 minutes, and each mirrored pair adds up to about 24 hours 16 minutes.
In I.20 Ptolemy disputes a rising-time figure that an older scheme gave Virgo and Libra: the tables, he says, show them rising faster than claimed, and Leo and Scorpio, the other pair in that sentence, slower. On October 26, 2026, zodiacsign.com rated Virgo and Libra at 30% and AskNebula at 70%.
Trading the word no
Back to that Monday. The Libra can turn down a chore with charm ('I'd love to, just not this week') and then can't turn down a brunch. The Virgo skips a party without a pang and then can't leave a favor undone. Each finds the other's kind of no easy, which means each has one to lend.
On Sunday night, go through the week's yeses together, the ones already given and the ones still being asked for. Each of you names the request you find hardest to refuse, and the partner who finds that kind easy writes the reply, or says it. The Virgo drafts the text that gets the Libra out of the engagement drinks. The Libra finds the warm, firm words that hand the laptop back to the coworker's IT desk.
Then keep one block a week that neither of you can give away without asking the other first. Make it the same block every week, because a fixed slot is easier to defend than a vague promise of time together. And when one of you does want to say yes to something big, say it at home before saying it to anyone else.
Mercury next door, and Mars on the Libra side
Mercury, the planet of talk and errands, never gets far from the Sun, so on a Virgo birthday it's in Leo, Virgo or Libra and on a Libra birthday in Virgo, Libra or Scorpio. Their Mercury signs are neighbors in 45.4% of modeled pairs of dates in our 1950–2005 sample, and the same sign in 26.2%. Put both birthdays into the Virgo and Libra comparison above to see which way yours fall.
Venus strays a little further. A Virgo's Venus sits in Libra, its own sign, about as often as in Virgo, where it's weakest, and plenty of Libras carry Venus in Virgo. Look up both Venus signs from your birthdays before deciding which of you is the romantic one.
Mars is where the roles can flip. At least one of a Virgo date and a Libra date has Mars in Virgo in 31.2% of modeled pairs, the highest of Virgo's matches with all twelve signs. Mars was in Virgo on 17.1% of sampled Libra Sun dates, slightly more often than on Virgo's own. Astrologers read Mars in Virgo as drive spent on tasks and fixes, so a Libra born with it may be the one who can't leave a favor alone. Check which of you, if either, has Mars in Virgo before deciding who usually takes on the extra work.
Venus at home in Libra, at its weakest in Virgo
A Libra is often won over by the listening: someone who remembers your manager's name and the thing you said back in March. The Virgo, for their part, likes the ease of a partner who makes a crowded room feel manageable and says the kind thing first. Their best dates are the ones the Virgo planned properly and the Libra dressed up for, with nobody else invited. When either has a bad day, the difference comes out: an upset Libra wants to hear it'll be all right and gets a plan; an upset Virgo wants the problem sorted and gets a kind word. Each is offering the comfort they'd want themselves.
Sex is the lowest of their five scores, and Venus is the reason astrology gives. At home in Libra, it wants courtship, a setting and some ceremony. At its weakest in Virgo, it wants to feel useful and safe before it lets go. In bed that can mean a Libra waiting to be swept up and a Virgo waiting to be sure, each politely holding back for the other. Plain words help more than hints here, since neither sign enjoys guessing.
Read the Venus in Libra profile and the one for Venus in Virgo against your actual placements, and add the Mars in Libra reading if either of you has that placement, since Mars is the planet astrologers check for desire and pace.
A marriage with too many guests
Virgo and Libra can stay married, though their marriage scores mixed, below their friendship. The household itself runs well: bills get paid, guests get fed, birthdays get remembered. What slips is the couple's own time. Libra adds a plan and Virgo rearranges the week to fit it, and sooner or later the rearranging starts to grate.
Over years that drift adds up to weekends given to cousins, neighbors and colleagues, and two people who are pleasant to each other in passing. Once a year, look back at the calendar together and count the weekends that were really yours. If the number surprises you, the Sunday trade above needs tightening.
Friends, a Libra parent and the office
Friendship is the area that scores best for these two. They're good company at a table, both curious about people and quick to notice the small things (who's new, who's gone quiet, who needs a ride home). The Libra can stay on for one more drink while the Virgo heads off, and nobody has to turn it into a joint decision. As friends, neither one's yes costs the other a weekend.
A Libra parent with a Virgo child does best with clear plans and real answers, since a Virgo child would rather hear 'no, and here's why' than 'we'll see'. A Virgo parent with a Libra child does best leaving room for friends and company, even when the homework isn't finished. A child's Moon and rising matter as much as the Sun, so find the child's Sun, Moon and rising before reading too much into either sign. With Virgo and Libra siblings, check that the one keeping the peace isn't always the one giving way.
At work they're easy colleagues who both take on the extra project. Before either accepts one, name who'll do the work and which current job moves to make room.
The same Monday, with a Libra's Mercury in Virgo
Suppose the Libra was born with Mercury in Virgo.
This Libra still loves a party but writes like an editor. The engagement drinks get declined in one plain text before lunch on Tuesday, and Sunday afternoon goes back on the calendar. The Virgo's yeses haven't moved, though. The grant application and the laptop still fill Saturday, and now it's the Libra asking why those can't go the same way.
Turning down your own partner is a harder skill, and it shows in the full charts. Look for a Saturn on either side touching the other's Venus or Moon, where refusing a partner tends to feel heavy, and for an aspect between the Virgo's Mercury and the Libra's Venus, the usual place to see whether one person's precision feels like care or like criticism. Laying one chart over the other shows both contacts, and two free birth charts, one each show which side of the equinox each Mercury and Venus fell on.
How the Virgo and Libra score works
We score two signs from four traditional relationships: the distance between them, their elements, their modalities and their ruling planets. Each area weighs them differently, and the headline score is the average of the five areas. Virgo and Libra are neighbouring signs (a semi-sextile); Virgo is earth and Libra is air; Virgo is mutable and Libra is cardinal; Mercury rules Virgo and Venus rules Libra.
The distance sets the base for every area: a trine or sextile starts high, a square or quincunx starts low, and an opposition starts high for sex and lower for friendship. Elements shift it (two air signs talk easily, two fire signs run hot), as do modalities (two fixed signs are loyal and slow to give way). Two different signs with the same ruling planet, a Venus-ruled sign with a Mars-ruled sign, or the Sun with the Moon add a little more. Every Sun-sign pairing on ZodiScope's compatibility pages uses the same rules, so the numbers above can be compared with any other pairing here.
Virgo and Libra in our 1950–2005 date sample
These estimates pair two dates drawn independently from the 1950–2005 sample, with equal weight for every date within each Sun sign. They show how often each Venus and Mercury combination turns up, which is why two real people with these Sun signs can score differently.

Most common Venus pairings in this model: Leo with Scorpio (10.5%), Leo with Virgo (9.1%), Libra with Scorpio (8.9%). Venus signs are listed in Virgo Sun, then Libra Sun order. Mars can occupy any sign with either Sun sign. The most frequent Mars signs on sampled Virgo dates are Virgo (17%), Leo (16.1%), Libra (12.3%), Scorpio (12.1%), and on Libra dates Virgo (17.1%), Libra (15.1%), Sagittarius (11.8%), Leo (11.8%).
Date figures come from the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars at noon UTC on each of 20,454 days, January 1, 1950, to December 31, 2005. A pair figure sets one Virgo Sun date beside one Libra Sun date chosen independently, so it counts combinations of sky, never real couples.

Virgo and Libra questions
Which is better at saying no, Virgo or Libra?
Virgo is better at refusing invitations, and Libra at refusing extra work. The Virgo skips a party with little guilt, and the Libra hands back a job so gracefully that nobody minds, so each can write the other's refusals. Placements can swap the roles, so a Libra with Mercury or Mars in Virgo may be the one stuck with the favors.
What does a Virgo child need from a Libra parent?
Clear plans and straight answers. A Libra parent often keeps the peace with a soft maybe, and a Virgo child relaxes when the rules are stated and the reasons given. Hand the child a job they can do properly and praise the care in it, as well as the result. When the family calendar fills up, ask the child which plan they'd drop; a Virgo child usually has a firm view.
Is Virgo too critical for Libra?
Sometimes, mostly when a note arrives that nobody asked for. A Libra will often nod in the moment and mind it for days, so the damage shows late. The Libra needs room to disagree without smoothing it over, and the Virgo needs to hear that disagreement without making the case for the note a second time.
