Your sun sign describes how you're built, the steady core of who you are. Your rising sign describes how you come across, especially when people first meet you. It also sets where your houses start, so it changes which house every other planet falls in. You need your birth time to know it.

A sun sign horoscope gives everyone with that sign the same reading. A personal reading compares today's planetary positions with your own birth chart, so it can talk about your houses, your Moon and the transits touching you right now. It needs your birth time and place to do that.

Start with your Big Three: how you're built (your sun), how you feel things (your moon) and how you come across (your rising sign). Then look at the houses, which show the areas of life each placement works in, and the aspects, which show how your placements pull on each other. You don't have to read it all at once.

Your birth chart records where the planets were at the minute you were born, and it never changes. A daily horoscope reads today's sky, usually against your sun sign, or against your birth chart when it's a personal reading. The chart describes how you're built. The daily reading describes what today is pressing on.

Your moon sign describes how you feel things: how you process feelings, what comforts you and how you react when you're unsettled. It often explains why you don't always "act like" your sun sign, especially under stress or with someone close. The Moon changes sign every two to three days, so a birth time helps pin yours down.

Not in the laboratory sense. Astrology is a symbolic language, and controlled tests haven't confirmed its readings. The astronomy under it is exact, though: your chart uses planetary positions built on NASA JPL data, calculated for the minute and place you were born. Sign compatibility looks at how the elements (Fire, Earth, Air, Water) and modalities (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable) of two signs interact. Traditionally, signs of the same element are said to understand each other easily, and Fire with Air or Earth with Water are said to complement each other.
