Taurus Compatibility: A Guide to All 12 Pairings

Taurus compatibility starts with a familiar question: can two people make a life they both enjoy? In astrology, fixed earth brings attention to comfort, continuity and the things you build slowly. That gives each pairing a different question to explore, from sharing decisions with another Taurus to making room for change with Gemini.

The twelve guides below cover affection, friendship, disagreements and everyday choices. There's also a useful reason to look past the Sun: in our 1950–2005 date sample, Venus was in Taurus on just 20.5% of Taurus Sun dates. The rest had Venus in Aries, Gemini, Cancer or Pisces. The Taurus sign guide covers the sign itself; here we look at it alongside someone else's.

In Sun-sign astrology, Virgo and Capricorn share Taurus's earth element, while Cancer and Pisces form sextiles with it. These are traditionally read as supportive combinations. Scorpio brings the contrast of an opposite sign. Use those patterns to start a conversation; they don't rank partners or predict whether a relationship will last.

Venus, Mercury and Mars on Taurus Sun dates

We calculated one noon-UTC chart for every day from 1950 to 2005, then grouped the dates by Sun sign. Of the 1,733 Taurus Sun dates, 34.3% had Venus in Aries, 30.9% in Gemini and 20.5% in Taurus. Cancer accounted for 7.5% and Pisces for 6.8%.

Within astrology, those Venus placements suggest different themes to explore. Aries brings directness and initiative; Gemini brings conversation and variety. Venus in Taurus emphasizes touch, familiar pleasures and continuity. A Taurus Sun alone doesn't tell you which Venus interpretation belongs in the reading.

Mercury was in Taurus on 47.8% of the sampled Taurus dates, Aries on 33.4% and Gemini on 18.8%. Mars appeared in all twelve signs; Gemini, Taurus and Cancer were the most frequent in this particular window. That gives a date-based reading more to work with than a Sun pairing alone.

These are counts of dates, with every day given equal weight. They aren't a survey of people or couples, and a different birth-year window can produce different shares. Noon sampling also leaves uncertainty for births near a sign change. Use the table to understand the range of placements, then check your own dates.

How we calculated the date sample

We calculated Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars positions at noon UTC on each of the 20,454 calendar dates from 1 January 1950 to 31 December 2005, using PyEphem 4.2.1. Each date has equal weight. Apparent geocentric positions are converted to ecliptic longitude for that date and divided into twelve 30° tropical signs.

We group the dates by Sun sign, then count the share with Mercury, Venus or Mars in each sign. Pair estimates multiply those rounded shares, assuming two independent date draws with no age-gap restriction. For example, 20.5% of Taurus Sun dates and 20.4% of Cancer Sun dates have Venus in the same sign as the Sun: 0.205 × 0.204 × 100 gives about 4.2% for both placements together.

Shares are rounded to one decimal place and may not sum to exactly 100%. For two people with the same Sun sign, reversed Venus combinations are combined. These are frequencies in a date sample, not birth-population statistics or observations of couples. They cannot tell us how people communicate or whether a relationship will last.

How Taurus pairs by element

Earth pairings share a vocabulary of practical care. Taurus and Virgo explores when useful help becomes unwanted correction. Taurus and Capricorn asks how to enjoy what you've built, rather than keep postponing pleasure. With two Taurus Suns, the question is who notices when a comfortable routine needs changing. Virgo and Capricorn form trines with Taurus by sign; the earth signs guide explains that tradition.

Water introduces a different set of questions. Taurus and Cancer looks at the difference between being cared for and feeling understood. Taurus and Pisces explores how to turn a sympathetic intention into an agreement. Both form sextiles with Taurus. Taurus and Scorpio are opposite, fixed signs: a useful pairing for thinking about privacy, trust and shared control.

The air pairings don't all pose the same challenge. Taurus and Gemini distinguishes a tentative plan from a promise. Taurus and Libra share Venus as a ruler but approach agreement differently. Taurus and Aquarius puts two fixed signs into a square, raising the question of how either person revises a position.

With fire, look at what gets a decision moving. Aries and Taurus compares starting quickly with taking time to commit. Taurus and Leo considers private affection and visible appreciation. Taurus and Sagittarius asks how much a shared plan should leave open. These are prompts drawn from the signs' symbolism; either person can occupy either role.

What astrologers mean by a good Taurus match

The familiar shortlist is Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer and Pisces. It comes from the trine and sextile configurations, traditionally read as harmonious. Ptolemy describes these sign relationships in Tetrabiblos I.13.

A supportive Sun pairing is only one part of an astrological reading. Taurus and Cancer, for example, don't necessarily have an earth-and-water pairing between their Venus signs. In our model, drawing one date independently from each sign's sample gives Venus in Taurus and Venus in Cancer in about 4.2% of pairings. That's a placement estimate, with no information about attraction or staying together.

If you're interested in the affection side of the chart, start with the Venus sign calculator. Then compare the interpretation with what each person actually enjoys: touch, words, time together, independence or some combination. A placement gives you something to discuss; your partner gets to say whether it fits.

The difficult matches: look at the disagreement itself

Leo and Aquarius form squares with Taurus. Aries and Gemini are adjacent to it, while Sagittarius is five signs away. Those are different configurations, so a single list of 'incompatible signs' hides more than it explains. None is evidence that you should avoid a person.

Take a changed weekend plan. One person may hear 'I found something better'; the other may mean 'I thought we'd both enjoy this.' The useful question is whether the plan was settled, and how a change should be proposed. The Taurus and Gemini guide works through that distinction without assigning reliability to one sign and carelessness to the other.

Persistence can also become a stalemate with a supposedly easy match. Agreeing on most things doesn't teach you how to disagree. Mars in Taurus offers the astrological interpretation of a slow, sustained response to conflict, but having a Taurus Sun doesn't mean you have that Mars placement.

Taurus in friendship

The Taurus friendship archetype is easy to picture: a standing dinner, a remembered preference, someone who follows through. Routine can make a friendship feel secure, provided both friends still choose it. Ask whether the familiar plan is a pleasure or simply the plan nobody has challenged.

Friendship also leaves room for different rhythms. One friend can enjoy a regular Sunday walk and still welcome someone who suggests a new route. The pair guides apply their themes to friendship separately from romance. For another astrological perspective, Moon in Taurus and the Moon sign compatibility guide discuss comfort and emotional habits. The Moon sometimes stays in one sign throughout a birth date; near an ingress, the time is needed to settle it.

Can a Taurus pairing predict marriage?

A Sun pairing isn't a sound basis for predicting marriage. Helgertz and Scott's 2020 study examined Swedish register data from 1968–2001, including 66,063 marital unions. It found no consistent support for the tested Sun-sign compatibility classifications in partner choice or divorce risk. It tested those classifications, not every form of synastry.

For a decision about commitment, ask about money, responsibilities, affection and how you repair a disagreement. A chart can supply a vocabulary for reflection, but it can't answer those questions on someone's behalf. The Big Three calculator adds Moon and rising to the Sun reading when you have the necessary birth details.

The same limit applies to soulmate claims. A trine, an opposition or a shared Venus sign doesn't establish that two people are meant to be together. Use the synastry reading guide if you want to understand how astrologers compare full charts, while keeping the relationship itself as the thing you judge.

Taurus compatibility questions

Who will a Taurus usually marry?

A Sun sign can't reliably answer that. The Swedish register study discussed above found no consistent marriage or divorce advantage for the compatibility classifications it tested. For a particular couple, conversations about commitment, money and responsibilities tell you more than a sign shortlist.

What is a good match for Taurus?

Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer and Pisces are the conventional Sun-sign answers because they form trines or sextiles with Taurus. That is an astrological starting point. A good partner is someone you can communicate with, trust and make workable agreements with, whatever their sign. Venus, Mercury and Mars add detail to a chart reading without certifying the match.

Who is Taurus not compatible with?

There is no sign that rules a relationship out. Astrology describes squares with Leo and Aquarius, adjacent signs Aries and Gemini, and the five-sign separation from Sagittarius in different ways. If one of those readings sounds familiar, identify the actual issue, such as planning or decision speed, and discuss it rather than treating the sign as the cause.

Who is a Taurus's soulmate?

No chart placement can establish a soulmate. Compatibility lists often nominate signs with trines, sextiles or oppositions to Taurus, but a symbolic connection doesn't tell you whether a particular relationship is caring, reciprocal or lasting. Full-chart synastry offers more interpretations, not a guarantee.
