Pisces is the mutable water sign and the last of the twelve, symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions. Jupiter rules it in traditional astrology and Neptune in modern astrology, and in 2026 both Neptune and Saturn left Pisces for Aries.
Pisces personality, strengths and weak spots
Astrologers tie Pisces to sensitivity to other people's feelings, which in daily life can mean noticing a friend's mood before they mention it and then taking it personally. Water is the element of emotion and mutable signs adapt, so Pisces has a reputation for bending toward whoever is in the room.
The strengths are imagination and forgiveness. A Pisces friend may give someone another chance long after everyone else has lost patience, and astrologers often point the sign toward creative work and care work, where picking up on feeling is the job.
The difficulty comes when sympathy turns into agreement. Pisces may say yes to a favor and regret it later, or drift away from a problem instead of naming it. Saying no is the skill worth practicing, and asking whether you actually want to help before agreeing goes a long way.

The year Neptune and Saturn left Pisces
Neptune spent most of 2011 to 2026 in Pisces, the sign it rules in modern astrology. Saturn arrived on March 7, 2023. Then both left for Aries within 18 days of each other, and the true North Node followed in July.
The two planets met at 0°45' Aries on February 20, 2026, the Saturn-Neptune conjunction that comes around about every 36 years (what that meeting means). Neptune takes about 165 years to circle the Sun, so it won't be back in Pisces in anyone's lifetime. Of the three planets beyond Saturn, the next to reach Pisces is Pluto, on March 8, 2043.
Between them, Neptune and Saturn crossed every degree of Pisces, so every Pisces born before 2011 had both planets pass over their Sun between 2011 and 2026. Astrologers associate Saturn crossing the natal Sun with taking on responsibility, and Neptune crossing it with a stretch when familiar goals feel less convincing.

Why Pisces has two ruling planets
Ptolemy assigned Pisces to Jupiter, paired with Sagittarius (Tetrabiblos I.17). Neptune came much later. Johann Galle found it in 1846 using Urbain Le Verrier's prediction, and modern astrologers gave it Pisces.
Traditional astrology connects Jupiter with generosity and hope, and modern readings add Neptune's imagination and pull toward escape. Jupiter moved through Cancer, a fellow water sign, until June 30, 2026, and it doesn't return to Pisces until April 14, 2033.
Venus is exalted in Pisces, a placement traditional astrology counts as especially strong for Venus, and astrologers link the sign's reputation for generous love to it. Mercury is in both detriment and fall in Pisces. Those terms describe Mercury's own placement in a chart, so they don't apply to everyone with a Pisces Sun. The last Pisces eclipse until 2034
Eclipses fell in Pisces and Virgo from September 2024 to February 2027. Three of them had the Moon in Pisces: a partial lunar eclipse on September 17, 2024 at 25°47', a total lunar eclipse on September 7, 2025 at 15°24', and a partial lunar eclipse on August 28, 2026 at 4°51'.
The total lunar eclipse of March 3, 2026 happened during Pisces season, but the eclipsed Moon was at 12°52' Virgo. Going by the dates in NASA's eclipse catalog and the Sun and Moon positions on JPL data, the next eclipse in Pisces is the total solar eclipse of March 20, 2034, with the Sun at 29°52' Pisces, eight arcminutes short of Aries.
Pisces dates and birthdays near the cutoff
Pisces dates are usually given as February 19 to March 20. The table shows the real window for 2026 to 2028, computed on NASA's DE440s ephemeris and checked against JPL Horizons.
A March 20 birthday can fall in Aries. In US Eastern time the Sun has entered Aries on or before March 20 every year since 1980, and in 2028 it arrives on March 19. To settle it, you need the birth year plus the exact time and place.
Since 2017 the Sun has entered Pisces on February 18 (Eastern) every year, so a February 18 birthday listed as Aquarius is Pisces if it comes after the ingress.
From 2000 to 2014, 8.12% of US births fell between February 19 and March 20, leap days included (5,051,808 of 62,187,024). That puts Pisces eighth of the twelve signs in the Social Security Administration counts published by FiveThirtyEight.
