Sign pair guide
Libra and Pisces compatibility: how many second chances does someone get?
A friend has stopped by to drop off a book. In the spring she borrowed the Libra's good camera for a trip and brought it back with a cracked lens, a shrug and no apology. Now, on her way out, she asks the Pisces whether she could borrow it again, just for one weekend. The Pisces is inclined to say yes: 'She's had an awful year.' The Libra says, 'She never even said sorry.'
What's at stake is trust: how many second chances someone gets, and who decides. Pisces and Libra both care a lot about being kind, which is part of why they get on so easily, but they mean different things by it. One wants the wrong named before anything is offered again. The other wants to offer again because the person is struggling.
Libra and Pisces compatibility starts from Venus, which rules Libra and is exalted in Pisces. Both traditional rulers, Venus and Jupiter, are benefic planets, and the two like each other fast. Where they part is mercy: when someone lets them down, Libra tends to want the wrong named before trust returns, and Pisces to offer it back at once.

Some signs couldn't be confirmed
A date alone doesn't tell us the birth time or time zone, so we allow extra room around each position. Here that allowance covers two signs, which doesn't mean the planet changed signs that day. Both candidates are shown and this pair is left uninterpreted. The birth chart calculator opens empty, so you can enter either person's details.

Two kind rulers that act in opposite ways
Libra's ruler is Venus. Pisces has Jupiter as its traditional ruler and Neptune as its modern one. Ptolemy's sources counted Jupiter and Venus, together with the Moon, as the beneficent planets, and he describes the two as close relatives: 'Venus has the same powers and tempered nature as Jupiter, but acts in the opposite way' (Tetrabiblos I.4). He means heat and moisture there, but it's a fair way into this couple's disagreement: both are kind, and they aim the kindness in different directions.
Venus ties the two signs together in a second way. It rules Libra and is exalted in Pisces, the sign where Ptolemy puts it at its strongest, while Saturn, the planet of limits, is exalted in Libra (I.19). So the Pisces side holds the love planet at full strength, and the Libra side holds the planet of rules there. Libra is an air sign, with Gemini and Aquarius, a day sign and cardinal, opening the half of the year when nights run longer than days. Pisces is a water sign, like Cancer and Scorpio, a night sign and mutable, closing that same half.
The camera with the cracked lens
Back to the doorway. The Libra hears the Pisces taking the friend's side. The Pisces hears the Libra keeping score against someone who's having a hard time. The Pisces is thinking about the friend's awful year, and the Libra remembers the missing apology. The talk moves faster once each says out loud which of those matters most to them.
Then separate forgiving from trusting again. The Libra can forgive the cracked lens and still not lend the camera, and the Pisces can stay warm with the friend without handing over anything that matters. If the owner does want to lend, look for a yes with one change: the old camera, not the good one, or the apology first and the loan after. Forgiving can also stop short of another loan.
When one partner took the loss, that partner gets the last word on the thing itself. Here it's the Libra's camera, so the Libra decides about the camera, and the Pisces decides how close to stay with the friend. Neither gets to call the other too soft or too hard over it. It's a disagreement about someone else, and it shouldn't turn into a ruling on each other's character.
Where their Mercury and Venus signs fall
Mercury, the planet of reasoning and talk, can bring these two closer than their Sun signs suggest. Their Mercury signs share an element in 34.7% of modeled pairs of dates in our 1950–2005 sample, fourth among the twelve Pisces pairings and the only non-water partner in the top four. That happens two ways: a Libra with Mercury in Libra meets a Pisces with Mercury in Aquarius, both air, or a Libra with Mercury in Scorpio meets a Pisces with Mercury in Pisces, both water. Astrologers read a shared Mercury element as a shared way of reasoning, so in those charts the two may follow each other's logic even while they disagree about what to do. The date counts don't test that. A free birth chart gives each Mercury sign, with its house if you know the birth time.
Venus is a different matter: a Libra date and a Pisces date never shared a Venus sign in our sample. Both Venus signs fall in water, Venus in Scorpio for the Libra and Venus in Pisces for the Pisces, in 7.0% of modeled pairs, the highest of the twelve Pisces pairings. Most common Venus pairings in this model: Scorpio with Aries (11.7%), Scorpio with Aquarius (10.5%), Virgo with Aries (10.2%). Venus signs are listed in Libra Sun, then Pisces Sun order. Mars can occupy any sign with either Sun sign. The most frequent Mars signs on sampled Libra dates are Virgo (17.1%), Libra (15.1%), Sagittarius (11.8%), Leo (11.8%), and on Pisces dates Aries (13.3%), Taurus (12.3%), Capricorn (11.6%), Pisces (10.8%).
Figures from the date sample use noon UTC positions for all 20,454 days of 1950 through 2005, one per day. Each pair figure matches a Libra Sun date with a Pisces Sun date chosen independently, which makes it a count of sky combinations, never of couples.
Five signs apart, and Ptolemy's equal days
Published scores for this pair disagree more than most. On October 19, 2026, zodiacsign.com gave Libra and Pisces one of its lowest Pisces scores and asknebula a high one. Part of the confusion is the distance. Modern astrologers call two signs five apart a quincunx, a word Ptolemy never uses, and the gap is none of his four aspects.
Early Pisces and late Libra give New York almost the same daylight. By our calculation the Sun at 5° Pisces (February 23, 2026) gives 11 hours 2 minutes and the Sun at 25° Libra (October 18, 2026) gives 11 hours 1 minute, and the match holds degree for degree. Equal days are the reason Ptolemy gives in I.15 for linking signs 'equally removed from the same tropical sign'. Counted from the winter solstice itself, that puts Libra beside Pisces; the Loeb editor's note counts from Capricorn as a whole sign and pairs Pisces with Scorpio, whose days don't match. Against that, the plain wording of I.16 and the list drawn up by his Loeb editor, Frank Egleston Robbins, count any two signs five apart as disjunct.
The link is a narrow one. Libra takes 36.4 degrees of the sky's turn to rise at 36° north and Pisces only 19.4, by our calculation, so the two signs match in daylight and not in rising time. Scorpio and Aquarius share the same kind of equal-days tie across the same solstice. Leo, the other sign five away from Pisces, has none, and the Pisces page for all twelve pairings covers that one too.
Gentle on the surface, and different in bed
A Libra is often drawn to how little a Pisces judges: someone who lets a story be finished before asking what the fair response would be. A Pisces is often drawn to the Libra's grace and sense of fair play, the partner who notices when somebody's been left out and quietly brings them in.
In bed, the Venus signs say more than the Sun signs. A Libra's Venus most often sits in Scorpio or Virgo, and a Pisces's in Aries or Aquarius, so two people born under gentle signs can want very different things: one wants intensity or care, the other directness or surprise. Read the Venus in Libra guide for the minority with Venus at home, then check both Mars signs too, since a Libra Mars and a Pisces Mars describe desire in very different moods. Two people who dislike conflict can also avoid saying what they don't like in bed. Name one thing you'd like more of and one you'd like less of, and have that talk somewhere other than the bedroom.
Friends who keep the line and open the door
As friends, the Libra often keeps a group's standards and the Pisces often lets everyone back in. One says when something wasn't okay, and the other makes sure the person who did it still feels welcome at the next get-together. That can help a group get past a falling-out, as long as whoever was hurt isn't expected to welcome anyone back before they're ready.
Day to day, they're good at a calm, good-looking home and at the pleasures that go with it: a gallery on a slow afternoon, live music, a dinner someone took time over. The catch is that the calm can hide a decision nobody wants to make. Two people who each want the other happy can take a month to pick a couch, so give every shared decision a date and let one person make the final call. If you work together, decide early who tells a client when a deadline will slip.
Settling down, and the lines two charts can show
For a lasting couple, this pair has more going for it than its mixed scores suggest: it's affectionate, good at making a home pleasant and slow to wound. Its weak spot is the hard conversation neither wants to start, so problems wait politely until they're big. The habit that helps is small: whoever notices a problem first says one sentence about it within a day, even an awkward one like 'Can we talk about the money thing before the weekend?' Sun signs give the theme; any particular marriage depends on the two people in it.
Does one person's Saturn touch the other's Venus? Astrologers look there for commitment and limits: does an agreement leave both of you feeling secure, or one of you feeling managed? Does either person's Neptune touch the other's Venus, where forgiving can shade into not seeing a problem at all? Look at both Venuses and note the aspect as well, since astrologers read a trine very differently from a square. How aspects are measured inside one chart is the place to begin.
If the camera had been the Pisces's
Turn the evening round. Say the camera with the cracked lens belongs to the Pisces instead.
Now the Pisces is the one who was let down, and is still inclined to lend it again: 'She's had an awful year.' The Libra, who lost nothing, may push harder for an apology than before, on the Pisces's behalf. To the Libra that feels protective. To the Pisces it can feel like being overruled about their own things.
By the rule above, the owner has the last word on the camera, so this time it's the Pisces's call. The Libra's part is to say once what bothers them and then drop it, including the 'I told you so' if the camera comes back late. The Libra may still think lending it is a mistake, and respecting the Pisces's call doesn't mean agreeing with it.

Libra and Pisces questions
What pulls Libra and Pisces together?
Venus, first of all. It rules Libra and is exalted in Pisces, so each partner meets a version of the love planet they recognize. In everyday terms it's a shared gentleness: both signs dislike harshness, enjoy beautiful things and make each other feel welcome early on. It lasts best when each says what they want, even when they're worried it will disappoint the other.
What does it mean that Libra and Pisces are five signs apart?
Modern astrologers call the distance a quincunx, two signs with little in common that have to adjust to each other. Ptolemy's scheme gives two readings. By the equal-days reason he gives in I.15 the two are linked, since a day with the Sun in early Pisces lasts as long as one with the Sun in late Libra, while I.16's wording and his editor's list make signs five apart disjunct.
How do Libra and Pisces handle someone who lets them down?
Usually differently. Libra tends to want the wrong acknowledged before trust comes back, and Pisces tends to offer another chance because the person is struggling. Decide together by separating forgiving from trusting again, and let whoever took the loss have the final word on what's at stake. A yes with one condition often suits both.
