Sign pair guide
Scorpio and Sagittarius compatibility: are you encouraging me, or trying to change me?
The booking is already paid for: two places at a Saturday improv workshop, six hours of games with strangers, and a note that says 'You'll love it, I promise.' One of you sees a gift. The other, who would rather do almost anything than make up a scene in front of a room, hears a verdict: you'd be more fun if you loosened up. The workshop isn't until Saturday, and you're already arguing about whether it was a gift at all.
Sagittarius and Scorpio sit side by side on the wheel and want different things from a shared life. In astrology, Sagittarius, the traveler, is usually described as eager to try things and meet people, and Scorpio as slower to commit and keen to see one thing through. That difference accounts for much of the attraction. It gets tiring when either one decides the other would be better off living their way, because from the outside an invitation and a campaign to change someone look exactly alike.
Scorpio and Sagittarius compatibility is a mixed match in astrology: water and fire side by side on the wheel, joined by none of the classical aspects. The usual sticking point is time together, since Scorpio may want more closeness than Sagittarius expects to give. Things go best when either can turn down an invitation without it becoming a verdict.

Some signs couldn't be confirmed
A date alone doesn't tell us the birth time or time zone, so we allow extra room around each position. Here that allowance covers two signs, which doesn't mean the planet changed signs that day. Both candidates are shown and this pair is left uninterpreted. The birth chart calculator opens empty, so you can enter either person's details.

When a nudge starts to feel like a makeover
Astrology reads Sagittarius, Jupiter's sign, as the partner who keeps pointing at a bigger world, and Scorpio, the sign that prefers depth to range, as the one who keeps asking you to go further into this one. So the Sagittarius wants the Scorpio out more, and the Scorpio wants the Sagittarius to stay longer: with a hard feeling, with one conversation until it's really over. Either push can come from love. Either can also sound like 'you'd be better if you were more like me.'
You find out which one it is after the first no. An invitation can be turned down and stay friendly. A campaign comes back as a joke at dinner, a story about a friend who loved it, a second booking. If you're the one asking, notice whether you accepted the no or just filed it under 'not yet'. If you're the one being asked, say which no you mean: not this one, not right now, or not ever. 'Not right now' leaves room to offer another date. 'Not ever' means the subject is closed.
A deal that suits this pair is try it once, with an exit agreed in advance. Go to the first half of the workshop, and if it's miserable, leave at lunch with no speech required. Then the asker's job is to take the answer well: thank them for coming, skip the review of what they missed, and don't raise it again unless they do. Some things shouldn't be anyone's project, though. Friends, faith, body and family get an invitation at most, never a plan.
Scorpio's campaign runs quieter, which is why it gets missed. It shows up as a sigh when a third set of guests is invited, or as questions that keep going after the Sagittarius has said everything they have to say. A private partner often needs a day to recover after a lot of company, and saying so in advance ('one night out, the next one in') works far better than going silent halfway through the party. And a Sagittarius who's been asked to slow down can fairly ask when the pace picks up again.
What pulls them together, and whether it lasts
Both feel the pull early. Astrologers see a Sagittarius charmed by how closely a Scorpio pays attention: they listen to the whole story, remember it and stand by what they say. Scorpio tends to like how easily a Sagittarius talks to strangers, turns a free afternoon into a plan and laughs off things that would keep a Scorpio up at night. For a while, that contrast is most of the fun.
Commitment is where it starts to matter. The usual reading is that a committed Scorpio wants one person, fully: exclusive from early on, private about the relationship, and promises kept exactly as made. A committed Sagittarius can be just as loyal and still expect their own friends, their own trips and nights out without a report afterward. So say early what exclusive means to each of you, how much time apart feels normal, and which promises can't slip. Astrologers also describe jealousy and independence feeding each other here, since a Scorpio who feels unsure asks more questions and a Sagittarius who feels watched stays out later. Saying where you'll be before you're asked helps from one side, and asking once, then trusting the answer, helps from the other.
Astrologers say it can last, though it isn't one of the easy matches: no classical aspect links the two signs, and fixed water and mutable fire move at different speeds. Scoring sites are lukewarm too. When we read them on October 17, 2026, zodiacsign.com scored this pair 30% and jobcannon gave it 55 out of 100. It tends to hold when both stop trying to remake the other and agree on what commitment includes. Day to day, talking is the easy part, especially when neither is asking the other to change. A question one of them raises over breakfast can still be going at dinner, and both of them like it that way.
Next-door signs with no aspect between them
Scorpio and Sagittarius sit one sign apart, closer than Ptolemy's nearest aspect, the sextile, allows. Signs this close are disjunct in his scheme, with 'none whatever of the aforesaid familiarities with one another' (Tetrabiblos I.16), and this pair has none of the other ties he lists either. Today the 30° gap is called a semisextile, and modern astrologers link it with the friction of neighbors who see each other's habits up close.
They differ in kind, too. Scorpio's element is water, and Ptolemy counts it among the solid signs and the night signs. Sagittarius is the last of the three fire signs, a day sign and one he calls bicorporeal. Modern astrology calls those two kinds fixed and mutable.
Traditionally Sagittarius belongs to Jupiter and Scorpio to Mars. Ptolemy defines Jupiter partly by its neighbors: Jupiter 'has a temperate active force because his movement takes place between the cooling influence of Saturn and the burning power of Mars' (I.4). Mars belongs to the night planets and Jupiter to the day ones, and neither has a share in the other sign's element. Modern astrology adds Pluto, found in 1930, as Scorpio's co-ruler.
Venus and Mars in Scorpio, on Sagittarius Sun dates
A Sagittarius Sun date quite often carries Scorpio's own planets. In the 1950–2005 sample, Venus was in Scorpio on 34.0% of Sagittarius Sun dates, a little more often than on Scorpio's own Sun dates (32.0%). Mars was in Scorpio on 14.9% of sampled Sagittarius Sun dates, more than on the dates of any other Sun sign, Scorpio's own 12.7% included. So a Sagittarius partner may well carry Venus in Scorpio, the all-in way of loving, or Mars in Scorpio's slow, focused drive.
A Sagittarius with a Scorpio Venus is described as wanting loyalty and closeness more than variety. The playful, roaming lover of the stereotype is Venus in Sagittarius, the free-ranging kind, which turns up on 20.1% of sampled Sagittarius Sun dates. Both Venus signs land in Scorpio in 10.9% of modeled pairs of dates, and no Venus combination is more common for these two Suns.
Mercury is where this pair most often echoes its Sun signs. In 33.1% of modeled pairs of dates both Mercury signs match their Suns, Mercury in Scorpio with Mercury in Sagittarius, the highest share of Scorpio's twelve sign pairings. Mercury in Scorpio is said to ask the next question, and Mercury in Sagittarius to jump to the big conclusion. In that pairing an invitation can sound like a sales pitch, and a follow-up question like a cross-examination. See which Mercury and Venus signs your two birth dates give in the comparison above.
When it comes to sex, the usual picture gives Scorpio the slow, all-in pace and Sagittarius the playful, try-anything one. Check both Venus and Mars signs before you trust that, since a Sagittarius with either planet in Scorpio may want the slower, deeper version too. Talk about pace and what each of you likes before you assume the stereotype. Suggesting something new is fine, and raising it again after a clear no isn't. If you don't know your Mars signs, look them up from two birthdays.
The Scorpio and Sagittarius date-sample estimates
These estimates pair two dates drawn independently from the 1950–2005 sample, with equal weight for every date within each Sun sign. They describe planetary combinations, not observed couples or relationship success.

Most common Venus pairings in this model: Scorpio with Scorpio (10.9%), Scorpio with Capricorn (9.1%), Sagittarius with Scorpio (8.2%). Venus signs are listed in Scorpio Sun, then Sagittarius Sun order. Mars can occupy any sign with either Sun sign. The most frequent Mars signs on sampled Scorpio dates are Libra (16.5%), Virgo (13.7%), Scorpio (12.7%), Capricorn (11.5%), and on Sagittarius dates Libra (15%), Scorpio (14.9%), Capricorn (11.2%), Aquarius (11.2%).
The placement percentages use noon UTC positions of the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars on all 20,454 days from January 1, 1950, through December 31, 2005, with each day counted once. The cusp figures use separately calculated times of the Sun's entry into Sagittarius for 1960 to 2026, in US Eastern time. Pair figures match one Scorpio Sun date with one Sagittarius Sun date chosen independently, so they count how often sky combinations occur and say nothing about how any couple talks, travels or decides.
Born November 21 or 22?
Then the birth year decides it, and sometimes the hour. In US Eastern time from 1960 to 2026, November 21 was never mostly Sagittarius. The Sun changed signs that day in 18 of those 67 years, always in the afternoon or evening, at 2:56 p.m. at the earliest, in 2024. November 22 is the harder date. It was mostly Scorpio in 14 of the 67 years, the last in 2003, and from 2004 to 2026 the Sun left Scorpio before the middle of November 22 every year. November 23 fell wholly in Sagittarius in all 67 years.
So a November 21 birthday is Scorpio unless the birth came late in the day in one of those 18 years, and a November 22 birthday from 1960 to 2003 may well be Scorpio too. In other time zones the cutoff moves by the time difference. The exact times for 2026 to 2028 are in the season table on the Scorpio sign page, and for any other year you can get the Big 3 from a birth date, time and place.
A cusp birthday isn't half of each sign. The Sun was in one or the other. What a late-season Scorpio often does share with Sagittarius is Mercury: on sampled Scorpio Sun dates with the Sun in the last ten degrees of the sign, roughly the final ten days of the season, Mercury was in Sagittarius 49.1% of the time (1950–2005). Check the Sun sign first and read that sign's pairings. If Mercury is in Sagittarius, read that placement on its own for how the person thinks and talks.
Friends who trade recommendations
As friends these two run on recommendations: the book, the bar, the trip, the podcast you have to hear. Sagittarius tends to suggest places neither of you has tried, and Scorpio the familiar spot where you can actually talk. It's a lively friendship while both keep saying yes now and then.
The strain comes with a run of no's. After the fourth turned-down invitation the one asking starts to feel rejected, and the one declining starts to feel managed. Take turns picking, and if one of you keeps declining, ask what they'd actually enjoy. A no shouldn't leave anyone owing a yes later. And when a no is about the plan and has nothing to do with the friend, say so out loud, because a friend who hears silence will fill it in.
Jupiter between two charts
Only the two birth charts show whether one person's Jupiter touches the other's Sun, Moon or Venus. That contact is the classic synastry reading for encouragement and growth, and for a partner who keeps wanting more for you. Whether it lands as generosity or as pressure depends on which planet it touches and by which aspect. Birth times let the comparison go a step further, placing the Sagittarius's Jupiter among the Scorpio's houses and the Scorpio's Jupiter among the Sagittarius's.
Start with a birth chart for each of you that shows Jupiter's sign and house, then read up on how one chart's planets are set against another's. One person's Jupiter on the other's Moon is often taken as emotional generosity, so check it both ways: your Jupiter on their Moon, and theirs on yours.
Two Sagittarius partners, one kind of surprise
Picture two Sagittarius partners who each spring a weekend away on a Scorpio. One has Venus in Scorpio, found on 34.0% of sampled Sagittarius Sun dates, more than any other Venus sign. Their surprise is a cabin up a dirt road with no signal, no plans and nobody else, chosen because the Scorpio once said they'd love a weekend with no one to perform for. The Scorpio loves the cabin and still minds that their Friday off was booked for them.
The other has Venus in Sagittarius, found on 20.1% of those dates. Their surprise is a city the Scorpio has never seen, with a friend's party on the Saturday night and a list of bars to try. The Scorpio enjoys the first day and spends the party wondering when they agreed to a room full of strangers. Both trips were meant kindly, and both were decided without the Scorpio. The first Scorpio mostly wants to be asked next time. The second is still working out whether the trip or the crowd was the problem, and hasn't said anything yet.

Scorpio and Sagittarius questions
Why does Sagittarius chase Scorpio?
Astrology pictures Sagittarius as curious about whatever it hasn't figured out yet, and a private Scorpio who opens up slowly keeps that curiosity going. Venus was also in Scorpio on about a third of sampled Sagittarius Sun dates, a placement said to seek depth and loyalty in love. The chase goes well when it slows down the first time Scorpio asks it to.
Can Scorpio and Sagittarius change each other?
Yes, mostly by example and by invitation. Astrology reads Sagittarius as widening Scorpio's world and Scorpio as deepening Sagittarius's, and both can come out better for it. What backfires is treating the other person as a project: repeated pushes, digs dressed up as jokes, asking again after a clear no. Ask once, take the answer, and let each of you choose what to change.
What kind of friends are Scorpio and Sagittarius?
Curious ones who like a good conversation. Sagittarius brings the new place, the new plan and the new crowd, and Scorpio brings the long talk afterward about what it all meant. In about a third of modeled pairs of dates the Mercury signs are Mercury in Scorpio with Mercury in Sagittarius, which astrologers describe as close questions meeting big conclusions. Trouble starts when skipping a plan feels like rejecting the friend.
