Sign pair guide
Cancer and Cancer compatibility: when you both need looking after
You both get home after a rotten day, and each of you quietly waits for the other to put the kettle on and ask what happened. Two Cancers are usually the people who do that for everyone else. The problem with this zodiac match isn't a lack of care. It's the night when nobody is free to give it.
In Cancer compatibility, astrology puts two Cancer Suns near the top: same element, same ruler, same instinct to protect the people they love. The rest of the two charts is a different story. In our 1950–2005 date sample, two independently chosen Cancer dates both had Venus in Cancer in only 4.2% of modeled pairs. Much more often, one Venus was in Gemini and the other in Leo.
Two Cancers usually understand each other fast: same element, same ruling Moon, same pull toward home and family. Both also expect the other to notice when something's wrong. When you're both hurt or worn out at once, nobody is free to do the comforting. Agree ahead of time how you take turns being the steady one.

Some signs couldn't be confirmed
A date alone doesn't tell us the birth time or time zone, so we allow extra room around each position. Here that allowance covers two signs, which doesn't mean the planet changed signs that day. Both candidates are shown and this pair is left uninterpreted. The birth chart calculator opens empty, so you can enter either person's details.
Check the placement with birth time and placeThis tool compares Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars signs. It doesn't calculate Moon compatibility or exact aspects, and rising sign and houses need a birth time and place.
Compatibility Check requires a free account. You can save your birth details there and enter the other person's details. This comparison isn't saved to a profile. Deep Compatibility requires Pro and complete profiles for both people.
Birth-date positions use Swiss Ephemeris calculations based on NASA JPL planetary data. Read about the data and precision. The historical date tables below use a separate PyEphem calculation.
Why two Cancers click so quickly
In astrology, meeting someone with your own Sun sign is like hearing your own accent abroad. Two Cancer Suns share the water element, the cardinal mode and the Moon as ruler, the planet astrologers use for comfort, feelings and family. Ptolemy gave Cancer to the Moon as its house in Tetrabiblos I.17, and every modern reading of this pair builds on that.
What that looks like day to day: you both notice when the other goes quiet. Neither of you needs a long explanation for wanting a night in. Birthdays get remembered, family is a shared priority and the home tends to fill up with things that mean something. On 2 October 2026, zodiacsign.com gave this pairing 99% for both trust and emotions, and it's easy to see why.
The same bad night, twice
Two people who are good at sensing moods will sense each other's at the same time. If one of you comes home tense, the other picks it up within minutes and may tense up too. If both of you go into your shells to recover, the flat can go silent for an evening, with each person reading the silence as being about them.
The fix is boring and it works: decide in advance how you take turns. Some couples use a plain sentence, such as "I need looking after tonight", which tells the other person their job before they guess. Others go by whoever is less worn out, even by a little. Either way, one of you steps forward and the other is allowed to lean.
And when the bad night is over, say what helped. Cancers remember how they were treated. A quick "that cup of tea saved me" stores up goodwill for the next time it's your turn to give.
Home, family and money with two Cancers
Two family-minded signs can mean two families pulling at once. Whose parents get Christmas? Who calls whose mother on Sunday? Neither of you is likely to say "I don't mind" and mean it. A fair rotation, written down if necessary, saves a lot of quiet resentment.
Money tends to be cautious in this pairing. Both of you may want a cushion and a nest that feels safe, which is a strength until one of you wants to spend on something the other files under risk. Agree on a shared savings figure and a personal spending allowance that needs no explanation.
Two homebodies can also close the circle too tightly. If every evening is the two of you and every weekend is family, jealousy has nowhere to cool off. Keep at least one friendship each that isn't shared, and treat time apart as normal rather than as a warning sign.
Affection, sex and who makes the first move
Physical closeness is usually easy here. Two Cancers tend to be tactile and loyal, and a sense of safety comes first for both. The common snag is initiation: when both people wait to be sure they're wanted, a lot of evenings end with two people who would have said yes.
Astrologers sometimes put this down to Mars, the planet of desire, being in its traditional fall in Cancer. A Cancer Sun doesn't fix Mars there, though. Mars was in Cancer on 16.9% of sampled Cancer Sun dates, its most frequent sign in this group, and both Mars signs were Cancer in only 2.9% of modeled pairs. Look up both Mars signs in two free birth charts before reading how a fallen Mars behaves into either of you.
Venus, Mercury and the Moon: where two Cancer charts split
Across modeled pairs of two Cancer dates, the most common Venus combination was one Venus in Gemini and one in Leo, at 19.1% when either order counts. Gemini with Cancer came next at 14.2%, then both in Gemini at 12.1%. Both in Cancer: 4.2%. Both Venus signs landed in the same sign, whichever sign it was, in 25.3% of pairs, and in the same element in 26.8%, the highest of the twelve Cancer pairings, but only just. The Cancer and Cancer calculator above checks Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars for two real birth dates.
Mercury, the planet of talk, is closer to home. It stays within about 28 degrees of the Sun, so a Cancer Sun's Mercury is in Gemini, Cancer or Leo. Cancer with Leo was the most common Mercury combination at 31.0%, and both in Cancer came to 22.0%. Mercury signs shared an element in 37.0% of modeled pairs, second only to Cancer and Scorpio among the Cancer pairings.
Then the Moon, which matters most of all for a Moon-ruled sign. On sampled Cancer Sun dates the Moon at noon UTC was in Cancer on just 8.2%, and spread almost evenly across the other signs, so a Cancer Sun with the Moon in Cancer too is the exception. The Moon also changed sign during the UTC day on 43.9% of dates, so two birthdays often aren't enough to settle it. Birth times settle it. The Moon and rising lookup gives each of you a Moon sign from date, time and place, and comparing your Moon signs is the step after that.
The Cancer and Cancer date-sample estimates
These estimates pair two dates drawn independently from the 1950–2005 sample, with equal weight for every date within each Sun sign. They describe planetary combinations, not observed couples or relationship success.
Both Venus signs repeat the Sun pair
4.2%
of modeled date pairs have Venus in Cancer for the Cancer Sun and Venus in Cancer for the Cancer Sun
Both Mercury signs repeat the Sun pair
22%
of modeled date pairs repeat the Sun signs in Mercury. Across all modeled pairs, Mercury signs share an element in 37%; Venus signs in 26.8%
| Cancer Venus | Cancer Mercury |
|---|---|
| Gemini 34.8% | Cancer 46.9% |
| Leo 27.5% | Leo 33.1% |
| Cancer 20.4% | Gemini 20% |
| Virgo 9.7% | |
| Taurus 7.5% |
Most common Venus pairings in this model: Gemini with Leo (19.1%), Gemini with Cancer (14.2%), Gemini with Gemini (12.1%). Reversed Venus pairings are combined because both Sun signs are the same. Mars can occupy any sign with either Sun sign. The most frequent Mars signs on sampled Cancer dates are Cancer (16.9%), Leo (15.1%), Gemini (11.8%), Virgo (11.4%).
We calculated Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars at noon UTC for every calendar day from 1 January 1950 to 31 December 2005 (20,454 days), giving each date equal weight, and the Moon in a separate run on the same dates. Pair percentages combine two independent Cancer Sun dates using rounded placement frequencies, with reversed combinations merged because both people share a Sun sign. This is a model of possible date combinations, not a survey of births or couples, and it has no data about personality or relationship outcomes.
Two Cancers as friends or siblings
As friends, two Cancers make a small, loyal circle: long phone calls, shared secrets and the friend who still has the birthday card you sent in 2014. The risk is the same waiting game as in romance. Each of you may hold back from calling first so you don't seem needy, and weeks go by. Set a default. Whoever thinks of it first calls, no scorekeeping.
Two Cancer siblings often share the role of family memory keeper, which can be lovely or competitive. One hosts, the other remembers the recipe wrong. Split the traditions rather than both guarding all of them.
What keeps a Cancer and Cancer relationship steady
This pairing does best with a few agreements made on a good day, so they're there on a bad one. You both want a say in family life, so decide which choices belong to one person and which need agreement.
- Turns. A phrase that means "I need looking after tonight", and a rule for who steps up when you both need it.
- Silence. Say "I'm just tired" out loud, so a quiet evening isn't read as a verdict.
- Families. A holiday rotation both of you agreed to before November.
- First moves. Take turns starting things, in bed and out of it.
- Old hurts. Raise them within a week, while they're still small.
Two Cancer Suns, two different Venus signs
Take two hypothetical Cancer Suns with the most common Venus combination: one with Venus in Gemini, one with Venus in Leo. In astrology's terms, the Gemini Venus shows affection through talk, jokes and variety, and the Leo Venus through warmth, gestures and being made a fuss of. Both are still Cancers who want a safe home.
On the bad night, that difference is useful. One partner may feel better after talking it through; the other after a hug and an evening of being looked after. Knowing which is which turns "who comforts whom" into "how do you like to be comforted", a much easier question. Swap in your own Venus signs from the calculator to see which reading fits you.

Cancer and Cancer questions
Can two Cancers get married?
Yes, and astrology reads it as one of the more home-centred matches: two people who value family, loyalty and a settled life. The questions that decide it are the practical ones, such as whose family gets which holidays and how you take turns supporting each other when you're both struggling.
Do two Cancers get too moody together?
They can, because both pick up on mood quickly. One person's bad day can become a shared bad evening. It helps to name what's going on early ("work, not you") and agree who steps up as the steady one that night.
Are Cancers loyal in relationships?
Loyalty is the trait astrologers mention most for Cancer, and two Cancers usually expect it from each other. The flip side is that a perceived betrayal is remembered for a long time. Say small hurts out loud before they turn into a grudge.
Are two Cancer siblings compatible?
Often very, since both care about family and tradition. The friction tends to come from both wanting to be the one who holds the family together. Sharing out the roles, one hosts and one organises, keeps it a partnership rather than a competition.
