Chiron in Aries: The Longest Stay Chiron Makes, From Gen X's Return to the Children Born Since 2018

Zodiac ring with the Aries arc in terracotta where Chiron's orbit reaches farthest out.

Is Chiron in Aries over? Not yet. Chiron stepped into Taurus on June 19, 2026, backed into Aries on September 17, 2026, and stays in Aries until April 14, 2027 (US Eastern dates). After that it won't be in Aries again until May 3, 2068.

That's the sky. Chiron in Aries in a birth chart is a separate thing, and it belongs to two big groups: people born from 1968 to 1977, who turn 49 to 58 in 2026, and children born from April 2018 to April 2027. The adults met their Chiron return between 2018 and 2026. The children won't meet theirs until 2068 at the earliest.

Quick answer

Chiron in Aries means Chiron was in Aries when you were born, as it was for most people born from 1968 to 1977 and for children born from 2018 to April 2027. Modern astrologers tie it to a sore spot around acting first and taking up room, often hidden under boldness. It doesn't predict a hard life.

Our data pointFebruary 18, 2019 until the move into Taurus on June 19, 2026: 7.33 years in Aries without a break, Chiron's longest unbroken stay in any sign from 1900 to 2060 (JPL Horizons)

Born in 1968, 1969, 1976, 1977, 2018, 2019 or 2026? Chiron changed sign in each of those years, so the year alone won't settle it. The exact Chiron in Aries birth dates, gaps included

Each time Chiron reaches Aries it crosses in, slips back on a retrograde loop and crosses again, so every Aries stay comes in three stretches. The two groups born since 1930, in US Eastern dates:

  • 1968 to 1977: April 1 to October 17, 1968; January 30, 1969 to May 27, 1976; October 13, 1976 to March 27, 1977. Ages 49 to 58 in 2026.
  • 2018 to 2027: April 17 to September 24, 2018; February 18, 2019 to June 18, 2026; September 17, 2026 to April 13, 2027. Ages 0 to 8 in 2026.

The gaps are where charts get misfiled. Babies born from October 18, 1968 to January 29, 1969 have Chiron in Pisces, and so do children born from September 25, 2018 to February 17, 2019. Births from May 28 to October 12, 1976 have it in Taurus, as do babies born from June 19 to September 16, 2026. It works the other way too: Shakira, born February 2, 1977, has Chiron at 27°37′ Aries, though a year-only list would file 1977 under Taurus. A birth on a change day needs the birth time. For the 1968 to 1977 group those days are April 1 and October 18, 1968, January 30, 1969, May 28 and October 13, 1976, and March 28, 1977; for the children, April 17 and September 25, 2018, February 18, 2019, June 19 and September 17, 2026, and April 14, 2027.

It's a crowded placement. In our count, 15.9% of U.S. births from 1940 to 2024 have Chiron in Aries (51.08 million births), built on NCHS annual birth totals (1940 to 2018; 2019 to 2024 from NCHS's Births: Final Data reports and 2024 natality file) spread evenly over each year. Leonardo DiCaprio (born November 11, 1974, Chiron at 21°02′ Aries) and Dwayne Johnson (born May 2, 1972, 14°57′ Aries) are both in the 1970s group, with degrees from JPL Horizons at noon UT on each birth date. One chart proves nothing, and the names on this page only show who shares the sign.

One more mix-up: a sky app such as Stellarium can show Chiron among the stars of Pisces, because it shows the constellation, while birth charts use the tropical sign. Our Chiron guide covers why a sky app and a birth chart can disagree about Chiron.

Bold on the outside, unsure underneath: what the writers said

Every reading of Chiron in a sign is modern. Charles Kowal spotted Chiron on November 1, 1977, on Palomar plates exposed that October, and the oldest sign-by-sign readings are Zane Stein's, from 1983. His Aries entry came out when the oldest of the 1968 to 1977 group were 15.

Stein built the entry on the two most recent Aries periods, the 1920s and the 1970s, which he called "both very Arien times." Of the people born then he wrote: "Theirs is a personal imperative to push their potentials to the maximum, and a belief that everyone should express himself." The lesson he named was "controlling their aggressiveness and coping with the aggressiveness of other people" (Interpreting Chiron, 2nd ed., 1983, p. B10). Barbara Hand Clow saw her clients the same way: "My clients who have Chiron in Aries are all trailblazers; they are known as courageous people" (Chiron, 2nd ed., Llewellyn 1993, ch. 7, p. 83).

Martin Lass and Melanie Reinhart start at the other end. Lass describes "a core feeling of worthlessness, unworthiness and even undeservingness of life" (Musings of a Rogue Comet, 2nd ed., 2002, ch. 5). Reinhart, in her essay on Chiron in Aries, writes that "we may be uncomfortably aware of a sense of vulnerability, hesitancy, lack of confidence and timidity about decisions and taking action," and then: "But this is not The Truth of who we are."

Both readings can fit one person. Think of someone who'll speak up for a friend in a group chat without a second thought, then rehearse for a week before asking a manager for anything. That's one way to connect them: Stein stresses the drive to express yourself, and Reinhart describes the hesitation that can get in its way.

Why Chiron stays in Aries longer than anywhere else

Chiron is a small icy body about 200 km across, a centaur listed both as minor planet 2060 and comet 95P/Chiron. It's named for the centaur of Greek myth, a healer and teacher who carried an incurable wound. Its orbit is lopsided: it swings from inside Saturn's orbit out to near Uranus's, and the far end of that loop lies in the direction of Aries, where Chiron moves slowest. Stein noticed it in 1983: Chiron "stayed for over eight years" in Aries and "less than two years" in Libra, so astrologers had far more Aries charts to study (p. B10).

Two recent landmarks fall in this sign. Chiron was in Aries at its farthest point from the Sun on May 27, 2021, and when the James Webb Space Telescope studied its ices in July 2023. And on JPL Horizons positions, Chiron's stay in Aries from February 18, 2019 until it moved into Taurus on June 19, 2026 lasted 7.33 years without a break, the longest unbroken stay of Chiron in any sign from 1900 to 2060.

The slow pace shapes the retrograde loops too. In Aries each loop lasts about 155 days (154.8 to 157.2) and pulls Chiron back about 4.5 degrees, while its net gain over a year is only about 3.6 degrees. One year's loop overlaps the next, and that overlap is why an Aries return never happens in a single pass.

Gen X's Chiron return came in three passes, or five

People born with Chiron in Aries from April 1, 1968 to March 27, 1977 met their Chiron return between 2018 and 2026. A return means Chiron coming back to the exact degree it held at birth; reaching the sign isn't enough. On JPL Horizons positions, every birth date with Chiron in Aries from 1900 to 2026 gets at least three exact passes at the Chiron return: 70% get three and 30% get five.

The first exact pass comes at a median age of 49.7, within a range of 48.4 to 50.9. The earlier hits came close together for this sign: the first square at a median age of 17.2 and the opposition only about six years later, at 23.6, which put the 1968 to 1977 group's square in 1988 to 1991 and its opposition in 1995 to 1996. The waning square followed at a median of 30.5. Exact timing for any one chart depends on the natal degree.

For the last part of the group the return runs late. Chiron's final loop through Aries runs backward from 0°52′ Taurus (the retrograde station of August 3, 2026) to 26°15′ Aries (the direct station of January 6, 2027). So anyone born with Chiron past 26°15′ Aries, such as Angelina Jolie (born June 4, 1975, Chiron at 26°45′ Aries), gets the last exact passes of the return between September 17, 2026 and April 14, 2027.

Is that harder than other placements? It's longer. Aries has the highest share of returns with five exact passes, and those passes fall on separate dates, so the first crossing doesn't mark the end. We found no study that links the number of passes to how hard a return feels. Melanie Reinhart's seminar notes describe the Chiron return as "a major threshold crossing, where the past is transformed in our attitude to it, and we can experience a new beginning" (Saturn, Chiron and the Centaurs, 1996).

Chiron opposite Uranus in the 1968 to 1974 charts

Stein put a caution in front of his sign list: he saw "increasing evidence" that Chiron's place "in relation to Saturn and Uranus" counts as well as its sign (p. B10). For part of the Aries generation that relation was unusually exact. Between October 1968 and August 1974, Chiron in Aries stood exactly opposite Uranus 13 times.

Counting every day with the two bodies within 5 degrees of that opposition, 27.7% of U.S. births with Chiron in Aries from 1940 to 2024 fell on such a day, in our count. Astrologers read Uranus as the planet of sudden change and breaking away, so a Chiron opposite Uranus at birth adds a pull between standing your ground and walking out. That's interpretation; the 13 dates are measured.

In love, at work, and what helps

At work, these readings put Chiron in Aries around starting things. Stein's line "They want to be first at something" fits the person who volunteers for the new project and then can't claim credit once it works, or who starts strong and stalls the first time someone pushes back.

In love, the same placement is read as trouble asking for what you want. You sit on a request until it comes out as a snap over something small, or you let a partner decide everything because choosing feels risky. Stein's lesson about aggression, your own and other people's, belongs here as much as at work.

Reinhart calls this placement the "Warrior of the Spirit." If you recognize the hesitation, try stating one preference before asking what everyone else wants, and start somewhere ordinary, like where to eat. The Chiron section of our birth chart guide reads Chiron as the place where you earn authority by getting lost first; for Aries, that means acting before you feel ready.

Three things make the sign reading more specific. The house shows where the theme plays out, such as work, partners or home, and it needs a birth time. Chiron touching the Sun, Venus or Mars is read as tying the Aries theme to identity, love or drive; those aspects come from the birth date, but one to the Moon or the rising sign needs the time. And in our count, 43.3% of U.S. births with Chiron in Aries from 1940 to 2024 came while Chiron was retrograde; readings that use the retrograde mark treat it as a more inward version of the same theme.

Children born since 2018: a parent's view

If you've read a frightening take on your child's Chiron sign, start with the dates. Every child born from April 17, 2018 to April 13, 2027 has Chiron in Aries, except those born in the two gaps, September 25, 2018 to February 17, 2019 (Pisces) and June 19 to September 16, 2026 (Taurus), with the birth time deciding on each change day. Princess Lilibet (born June 4, 2021, Chiron at 12°12′ Aries) is one of them, and so are most of the children in any class your child joins.

Some readings blame parents for the difficulties they tie to this placement, or say the child will lack healthy aggression. A Chiron sign can't tell you how a parent will treat a child, and this one is shared by a whole generation of children. If your child is hesitant, the Aries reading points at small chances to go first: ordering at the counter, choosing the game, saying what they want before someone else decides.

If you were born from 1968 to 1977 yourself, you and your child may share the sign, about 50 years apart. Their cycle runs on the same clock yours did: the first square between 2038 and 2041, the opposition between 2045 and 2047 and the return between 2068 and 2077.

Saturn, Neptune and Chiron in Aries together

Everything above is natal. The Chiron moving through the sky is a transit, and its pass through Aries is the return for natal Chiron in Aries.

Aries got crowded in 2026. Saturn entered the sign on February 13, 2026 and Neptune on January 26, 2026, so from September 17, 2026 to April 14, 2027 all three are in Aries together. Each has its own guide: Saturn's two years in Aries, to April 2028, and Neptune's stay in Aries, which runs to 2038.

Chiron in Aries also faces the far end of its axis. It opposes natal Chiron in Libra, and the 1995 to 1997 Libra group met that opposition between 2018 and 2026: what Chiron in Libra means for the people born then. Next comes Taurus: Chiron's three rounds in Taurus run from June 2026 to May 2034.

Transit note, October 2026

Chiron entered Taurus on June 19, 2026, moved back into Aries by retrograde motion on September 17, 2026, and re-enters Taurus for good on April 14, 2027 (US Eastern dates). It has been retrograde since August 3, 2026, at 0°52′ Taurus, and turns direct on January 6, 2027, at 26°15′ Aries. For now the sky's Chiron and the natal placement this page is about share the sign Aries, but they are separate things: the transit touches everyone's chart, and the natal placement belongs to the people born with it.

FAQ

Is Chiron in Aries a harder placement because it stays in the sign so long?

Not in any way anyone has measured. The long stay makes it a big group, 51.08 million U.S. births from 1940 to 2024 in our count, and it stretches the return: every birth date with Chiron in Aries from 1900 to 2026 gets at least three exact passes at the Chiron return, and 30% get five, so the return runs for a year or more. Longer isn't the same as harder. The modern readings split between drive (Zane Stein) and self-doubt (Martin Lass, Melanie Reinhart), and that split is a description, not a ranking.

How do you heal Chiron in Aries?

In astrology's terms, by practicing the thing this placement finds hard: acting on your own behalf before you feel sure. Melanie Reinhart calls this Chiron the "Warrior of the Spirit," and the lesson Zane Stein gave it in 1983 was handling aggression, your own and other people's. Small starts made often count for more than one big gesture. Chiron isn't a diagnosis, so if anger or anxiety is affecting your health or your relationships, talk to a professional.

Does every child born since 2018 have Chiron in Aries?

Almost every one, but not all. Children born from April 17, 2018 to April 13, 2027 have Chiron in Aries except those born from September 25, 2018 to February 17, 2019, who have it in Pisces, and those born from June 19 to September 16, 2026, who have it in Taurus (US Eastern dates). The next Taurus birth window runs from April 14, 2027 to July 18, 2033. On a change day (April 17 and September 25, 2018; February 18, 2019; June 19 and September 17, 2026; April 14, 2027; July 19, 2033), the birth time decides.

I was born between 1968 and 1977. Is my Chiron return over?

For most of the group, yes. People born with Chiron in Aries from April 1, 1968 to March 27, 1977 met their first exact return pass between 2018 and 2026, at a median age of 49.7. The return comes in three or five passes, though, so the later ones can trail the first by a year or more. If your natal Chiron is past 26°15′ Aries, your last passes fall between September 17, 2026 and April 14, 2027, during Chiron's final loop through the sign.
